PART-TWO

Traversing wall,
Barry Island

In collaboration with artist Gordon Young we have designed a 40 meter long typographic traversing wall for the Welsh seaside town of Barry Island.

A set of over 30 seaside themed icons were developed for the interactive artwork and cut from colourful recycled plastic. 4000 of these shapes are utilised to define the giant letters of the Welsh and English text along with other Barry Island specific keywords.

The climbs are configured for all ages and standards, it is possible to climb up and down individual letters but also traverse the wall’s entire length. The work can be read from the beach and promenade but also from planes coming into land at Cardiff Airport.
